In this context, the National Sustainability Certification System, established by the Ministerial Decree of 7 August 2024, ensures that biofuels and renewable fuels comply with the environmental and social criteria set out in European and national legislation, particularly Directive RED II (EU 2018/2001).



Certification confirms that biomass fuels meet the sustainability criteria defined by Directive RED II (EU 2018/2001) and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This verification system applies to biofuels, bioliquids and biomass fuels used for the generation of electricity and heat, ensuring:

For producers of biomass fuel, the deadline to obtain certification from a body accredited under the National Sustainability Certification System has been extended to 31 December 2025. It is also possible to complete the certification process for the solid biomass sector alone by 30 June 2026.
